Weekly Classes

 

Foundations of Christian Marriage

Class Description:  This 4-week class covers the Biblical teaching on marriage.  Specifically, the class explores the purpose and nature of marriage, the husband-and-wife relationship within marriage, and importance of maintaining a spiritually healthy marriage. 

Dates:  Sunday 4-6:30pm;  Feb 2, 9, 23 & March 2.  (4 weeks)

Location:  SW Fellowship Hall

Sing a New Song!

Class Description:  This class focuses on the powerful and enriching practice of Christian singing.  It explores the nature and purpose of singing in the life of the believer and church, covers the history of hymnody, and addresses ways to develop and strengthen our singing.  Over the eight weeks we will learn a few new songs and sing many classics.

Dates: Wednesday 7-8:30pm;  Jan 8-Feb. 26.   (8 weeks)

Location: Southwest Education Wing, Rooms 7 & 8

Band of Brothers

Class Description:  This class is for men, ages 18-29 who desire a richer and fully understanding of what it means to be a godly man.  The class involves a high commitment to daily Bible reading, discussion of three books on Christian manhood, openness and honesty about spiritual struggles and victories, and mentoring by an older Christian man.   The Band of Brothers will participate in a disaster relief effort and invites other men to join them on this service trip.  Dates of the trip TBD.

Dates: Thursdays 6:30-8:30pm;   January 9 -May 1, 2025.

Introduction to Christian Worship

Class Description:   This class is an overview of all the elements of communal Lord’s Day worship, including prayer, preaching, communion, giving, and singing.  We will explore the nature of Biblical worship, discuss the difference between private and communal worship, and examine why worship is so important to disciples.   We will discuss the historic and contemporary issues that all Christians have wrestled with and seek to be better worshipers of God.

 

Dates: 7-8:30pm;   Mar 5, 12, 26 & April 2-30 (8 weeks)

Story of the Old Testament (BIBL 2203)

 

Class Description:  This course is a three credit-hour survey of the Old Testament. Special attention will be given to the flow of God’s interaction with the nation of Israel through the Old Testament era. Appropriate historical and cultural backgrounds will be addressed when introducing the thirty-nine books of the Old Testament canon. Major theological doctrines and high-profile characters of the Old Testament will be studied within their historical context.

Dates:  Wednesdays, 6-9pm;  Jan 29 – April 30, 2025

Saturday Seminars

​

Home is the Key:  Principles and Practices for Family Discipleship (March 1, 2025)

Seminar Description:  This course explores the critical importance of the home for the discipling of children.    Home-based discipleship is not only biblical but is very effective at heightening the probability that church kids will stay faithful for life.  Embracing home-based discipleship not only helps the faith of kids but it also shapes parents, grandparents, and the entire congregation.  Topics to be addressed include the biblical vision for parent-centered discipleship, current threats to parental discipleship, and general tips and strategies for cultivating a spiritually focused home. 

 

Date: 1:30-7pm;  Saturday, March 1, 2025  (includes a communal meal)

Discipleship Begins at Home: Introducing Family Worship

 

Seminar Description:  This seminar is designed to inspire Christian families to implement Family Worship in their homes.  It provides Christian parents with inspiration, vision, and realistic help to make it part of the family’s routine.

 

Date: 1:30-7pm, Saturday, April 5, 2025  (includes a communal meal)
